We have spent countless nights conversing among ourselves about the state of things within the skateboard community. Corporate carpet -baggers and ‘ get- rich- quick’ schemers, plot and manipulate to take what little money is available to all of us- the skaters in the industry.
Its not that money is of paramount importance to us, but the fact that corporate giants and others of their ilk can become involved within skateboarding, make money off of our hard work in the boom times, then leave us sitting when things go south. These people know nothing about skateboarding & care even less about the riders that have devoted their entire lives to the pain, financial woes, and often-times bliss that comes with being a lifetime skater.
They want money. They will make it off of our hard work & suffering and you can bet that they’ll sleep like newborn infants the whole while. We have decided that we can no longer stand by and watch as company after company prostitutes skaters and those within our industry. We have decided that we will draw a line in the sand. When faced with a problem, we insist on being ‘Alexandrian’ and solve it in a sharp surgical fashion.
It is time to keep skateboard photography within our community. We will gather all the stock photographic images from the photographers, gather the rider information, collate the data, and when someone outside of skateboarding needs a photographic image, we will provide it. The photographers & riders will be paid appropriately what they truly deserve. No longer will we see ‘Mountain Dew’ machines with half-assed photo-shopped skate images. It needs to change & we are doing exactly this.- Jonathan Spooner/Zach Petschek/Ozzie Ausband
